Global Campaign Opposes JBS’s NYSE Listing Effort; Urges Rejection of April 26 Vote Returning Batista Brothers to Board

New York, NY – (April 22, 2024) — Ban the Batistas — an advocacy group fighting to protect U.S. farmers, ranchers, consumers, and investors from the risks associated with granting JBS S.A. a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listing – urged consumers across the globe to celebrate Earth Day by boycotting JBS products to send a message to the convicted corporate criminals behind the company, Joesley and Wesley Batista.

“As the world celebrates this day of environmental consciousness, we’re spotlighting JBS’s well documented record of polluting the environment, plundering resources and shamelessly treating planet earth like its own toxic waste dump,” charged Kimberly Spell, Executive Director of Ban the Batistas.

Spell noted Ban the Batistas today launched a multi-platform social media attack to boost public awareness of JBS’s extensive environmental and ethical transgressions in advance of the pending April 26th vote by the global meat conglomerate’s Board of Directors to reinstate the notorious brothers — Joesley and Wesley Battista — as members following a prior stint in a Brazilian prison for bribery, among other crimes.

“On April 26th, Joesley and Wesley Batista will attempt to shamelessly reclaim seats on the JBS Board, so we’re doubling down on our global boycott effort to demonstrate that their actions will not go unnoticed or unchallenged,” Spell continued. “By hitting them where it hurts—denying access to fresh capital from a NYSE listing—we’re sending the message that exploiting our planet for personal gain is unacceptable.”

JBS’s environmental transgressions include:

1- The company is notorious for using protected swaths of the Amazon rainforest for sourcing cattle – a practice that not only disrupts critical biodiversity, but also infringes upon indigenous land. They’re currently being sued by Brazil’s Rondônia State for this behavior – adding to JBS’ mounting slew of litigation for environmental and corporate malpractice.

2- A study conducted in 2022 estimates that JBS produces more greenhouse gas than the entire country of Italy.

3- JBS promised to achieve “net zero” carbon emissions by 2040 – a claim that New York Attorney General Letitia James is now taking to court for alleged greenwashing.

“We’re using Earth Day to help empower people across the world to put a stop to the Batistas’ egregious power grabs by boycotting their products,” Spell said.

JBS brands part of the boycott, carried in grocery stores around the world, include:

  • 1855 Black Angus Beef
  • 5 Star Beef
  • Blue Ribbon Beef
  • Certified Angus Beef
  • Clear River Farms
  • Just Bare
  • Pilgrim’s Pride
  • Richmond
  • Swift
  • The Honest Butcher
